Oops on Sunday

Mike took the two older boys to the park yesterday while I stayed at home with the baby. I got a phone call a couple of hours later from Mike telling me that the boys were inside the van with the doors locked and the keys in the front seat. Apparently, Mike opened the back door to let the kids inside and they started arguing over who gets to sit in the far back even though they had already discussed whose turn it was on the way to the park and it turned out to be Charlie's turn. James began to climb over the seat so he could sit in the back...at this point Mike threw the car keys on the front seat, pulled James back and strapped him in his seat. Charlie got strapped in his seat and Mike closed the door. He proceeded to open the driver's side door only to realize that all the doors were locked and the keys were in the front seat! Both boys were strapped in their seats and couldn't get out to help.

When Mike called me to ask if I could come and open the door with my set of keys I remembered that there wasn't a car seat installed in the car I was driving, so Mike called his dad to see if he could come over and watch the baby while I went to open the door...A few minutes later I was on my way to the park. I drove up to the van, clicked the door opener and voila!

Oh man, I would freak out. I'm always worried I'm going to do that one day. Good thing for spare keys and cell phones!!

I did this with my 3 boys once. since I had all 3 with me, my husband was able to drive out to where I was with a key. odd that those things only seem to happen when the kids are young enough that they are in carseats and can't just unlock it themselves.
