Five for Friday

1. I've been loving my breakfasts lately. On Monday morning I decided to take everything I'd need to make oatmeal for the week to work. Each morning when I arrive at work I mix up my oatmeal in a big bowl and eat it at my desk. This breakfast keeps me going and feeling full up until lunch time. My mixture this week has been old fashioned oatmeal, bluberries, almond milk and slivered almonds. Sometimes if I have extra time on Sunday night I make steel cut oats on the stove and add in apples, raisins and cinnamon.

Last week I read Molly's post about the combo she uses and it sounds yummy, I'm going to try it next week. 2. Another thing I've been enjoying is my Yogi Teas. I recently got 3 new ones; the Green Tea Kombucha aids immune and digestive function, the Green Tea Triple Echinacea stimulates immune function and the Green Tea Muscle Recovery supports an active body. All of these teas have very nice flavors. The one thing I absolutely love about all of the Yogi Teas is each tag on the tea bag has a saying. The tag on my tea bag this morning said, "Find happiness within yourself. Then share yourself with others."
3. Last week on Rae's blog she showed a picture of the Green Monster smoothie that she made and said how good it was. This prompted me to make my own version and it turned out great! What I thought was especially wonderful was the fact that my "picky" eater Charlie loved it. He watched me make it and noticed the "green leaves" that I put in it and asked to try it. He kept telling me how much he liked it and even asked for more. He also encouraged his brother to try it. I used spinach, froxen banana & bluberries, apple, flax seed meal, honey and water and it was tasty. You really can't taste the green leaves at all. Awhile back I came across a website that lists lots of different recipes for the green monster, it's called Green Monster Movement. Check it out if you want some more ideas or if you have a recipe you want to share you can submit it.

4. I made chicken soup last night and instead of noodles I used red Quinoa. This was the first time I had ever tried it and I really liked it. I like the way that it looks, it has a slightly nutty flavor and you could use it in place of past or rice in most recipes. I brought some to work for lunch today.
5. I wanted to be supportive of a friend at work that was selling Girl Scout cookies for her daughter. I bought 3 boxes of cookies; 1 box of Thin Mints and 2 boxes of Tagalongs. These cookies are highly addictive. I took the boxes home yesterday and put them in the pantry. I thought about them all night. I was good and didn't eat any.

I love red Quinoa (from Trader Joes). And I hear ya on the girl scout cookies. Way to be supportive. ;) We have to either eat them all and get them out of the house or hide them. Samoas are my fav. I've been putting Kale in my smoothies to get extra nutrients and can't even tell it is in there.

Put the cookies in the freezer. Then you can have them when you want them but they won't spoil if it takes awhile.

Here in Italy we don't have that brand of tea and the "muscle recovery" looks interesting.
I am sure that the combo is very good.
